What is Calgary's Vital Signs®?

Marking the tenth anniversary of its launch in 2016, Calgary’s Vital Signs® is an annual check-up that measures the vitality of our community and identifies significant trends. The Vital Signs report combines research with the results of a survey, where citizens assign grades and provide comments in issue areas that are critical to quality of life in Calgary.

Punjabi Vital Signs® Survey

Over ten years conducting Calgary’s Vital Signs® Survey, those living in the Northeast have shown lower participation. Wanting to engage this vibrant community, the Foundation, with the help of community partners working in Northeast Calgary, launched a pilot Vital Signs® Survey in Punjabi. While the sample size was small, this information is directional in identifying the viewpoints and needs of this community. More about the Punjabi results in the Sense of Belonging report.

Sense of Belonging Report

The Calgary Foundation's role in the community includes fostering inclusion and igniting action. In 2016, we produced our first Sense of Belonging report, influenced by a similar study conducted by Community Foundations of Canada in 2015.

Calgary's Vital Signs® was launched in 2007 to:

  • increase the effectiveness of the Foundation's grantmaking
  • better inform our donors about issues and opportunities

  • spark discussion, encourage connections and inspire action
